was with Tektronix, Inc., for 21 years where he was a co-founder of
the Customer-Centered Design group within Tek's Measurement Business
Division (precision instrumentation) Central Engineering organization.
As the group's first manager, David developed and refined many of the
end-user interview methods the group uses to elicit deep work background,
detailed product requirements, design and usability issues, and product
impact on the workplace. While a principal engineer in the Tektronix
Laboratories, TekLabs, he secured five patents for visual instrumentation
programming techniques.

then, David has worked on diverse projects ranging from commercial irrigation
control software design to Internet E-commerce site evaluation to printer
user interface simulation and testing. David is currently Senior Usability
Architect and Vice-president of Oregon Operations for Usability Architects.

has been a member of ACM and its special interest group on computer-human
interaction (SIGCHI) since 1986. He was audio-visual chair for the SIG's
major conference, CHI'90, and co-chair for CHI'91 and INTERCHI'93 in
Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He is currently program co-chair for CHIFOO,
the Computer-Human Interaction Forum Of Oregon. David is also a member
of the Usability Professionals Society (UPA). David holds a BS in History
from Portland State University (1974).
